New/Incoming Family Play Dates
Usually two play dates over the summer months on the playground on the south side of Lincoln
New and incoming Lincoln families, as well as current families, are all welcome to join the Lincoln Summer Playdates. Summer Playdates are a great way to meet other Lincoln families and kids and also learn about Lincoln and PTA sponsored events for the coming year.
Smart Start – Open House and Tour for New Families
In August a few days before school starts
An introduction to Lincoln School (adults and children welcome): Get to know Principal Cooney and Assistant Principal Bournes, meet other Lincoln families, learn about the Dolphin Do’s and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), tour the school before classes start, and meet representatives from District School Age Childcare and Right At School, for information regarding before and after school care.
Welcome Back Coffee
In August on the first day of school
After dropping off the kids(s) on the first day of school, all new and current Lincoln parents and guardians are welcome to join the PTA for coffee and treats from 9:00 – 10:00am.
Ice Cream Social
In August, usually the first week of school
This is an easy-going evening of seeing old friends and making new ones. Meet and greet enrichment providers, parent-run clubs, and the PTA leadership. Frozen treats are available for the kids. Join the PTA, sign up to be a room parent, and learn about a variety of other volunteer opportunities.
In October; open to the public
Lincoln’s annual day of fun, food, games for Lincoln families, friends, and the surrounding neighborhood. Activities include: a cake walk, bounce house, giant slide, a haunted house, human spheres, dunk tank, pumpkin decorating, and more. Delicious food for sale, too: pizza, sandwiches, candy apples, popcorn, donuts and other baked goods, hot chocolate, and coffee. Students can also run “Laps for Lincoln” to help raise money for the school. This fun event benefits the PTA’s support of the school by raising funds for special grants for teachers to make students’ classroom experiences more engaging and to support enrichment opportunities during the school day. All activities and food require tickets that can be purchased (usually $1/ticket or 22 for $20); activities and food are generally 1 to 3 tickets each.
International Family Fest
In November or December
A free, family event for the entire school community! This wonderful annual event is an occasion to celebrate all the rich cultural traditions that Lincoln families bring to our school and community. While primarily an afternoon of fun, food, crafts, and performances by Lincoln families and guests, International Family Fest also encourages intercultural understanding, tolerance, and respect for difference.
Usually on a Thursday evening in February
Science Fair is open to Lincoln students of all grade levels. This non-competitive (no judging) science fair is a showcase of projects by Lincoln students including: collections or grouping of natural objects, models or demonstrations of a scientific principle, and investigations and experiments. Projects may be done individually or with a partner (sibling or friend from the same or different grade). Each participant receives a ribbon and t-shirt.
